These mouthwatering bacon-wrapped beef skewers are perfect for a BBQ. Tender beef cubes wrapped in crispy bacon with fresh veggies—ideal for a family meal or gathering.

Serves: 4
Preparation time: 20 minutes (plus 1 hour marinating time)
Cooking time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

For the marinade:
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon cracked black pepper
For the skewers:
  • 500g beef rump steak, cut into 2-3cm cubes (or use sirloin or eye fillet)
  • 12 slices streaky bacon, cut in half
  • 1 large red onion, cut into chunks
  • 1 red capsicum, cut into squares
  • 12 cherry tomatoes
  • 8 wooden skewers (soaked in water for 30 minutes to prevent burning)

Method:

  1. Prepare the marinade
In a medium bowl, combine olive oil, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, oregano, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Marinate the beef
Add the beef cubes to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for richer flavour).
  3. Wrap the beef
Once marinated, wrap each beef cube with half a slice of bacon and secure with a toothpick.
  4. Preheat the BBQ
Preheat your BBQ to medium-high heat (around 200°C). If using wooden skewers, ensure they have been soaked to prevent burning.
  5. Assemble the skewers
Thread the bacon-wrapped beef cubes onto skewers, alternating with chunks of onion, capsicum, and cherry tomatoes. Aim for 3-4 bacon-wrapped beef pieces per skewer with veggies in between.
  6. Grill the skewers
Place the skewers on the BBQ and cook for 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the bacon is crispy and the beef is cooked to your liking.
  7. Serve
Let the skewers rest for a couple of minutes. Serve hot with your favourite sides.

Serving suggestions:

  • Roasted baby potatoes with garlic and rosemary

  • A fresh tomato and basil salad

  • Grilled corn on the cob with a sprinkle of smoked paprika

Tips:

  • For extra flavour, brush the skewers with any remaining marinade while grilling (ensure it hasn’t touched raw meat).
  • Add button mushrooms or zucchini slices for extra veggie options.
